Two people killed in Dallas apartment fire

DALLAS, TX Residents said they were awakened about 6 a.m. Saturday to screaming and shattering glass. When Dallas-Fire Rescue arrived to battle the blaze about 5 minutes later, flames were shooting from the roof of the La Villa Roma Apartments and residents were attempting to rescue people.

The seven who were hurt suffered injuries including fractures and minor to major burns, The Dallas Morning News reported. Several jumped from the second floor of the two-story, brick apartment building. All were reported in stable condition at Dallas hospitals.

Authorities said the blaze spread quickly through the attic, which did not have firewalls to prevent flames from spreading.

The Red Cross was arranging shelter for dozens of displaced residents.
