Man convicted of killing 2 Texas A&M students

BRYAN, TX According to KBTX-TV of Bryan and College Station, the Brazos County jury deliberated about three hours before returning its verdict against 26-year-old John Darrell Thuesen. He's accused of the March 2009 deaths of 21-year-old Rachel Kate Joiner and her 23-year-old brother and fellow A&M student, Travis Wilson Joiner. Thuesen was arrested at the College Station home where the siblings lived.

The penalty phase of the trial is scheduled to begin Friday morning. The jury will have to choose between the death penalty and life imprisonment for Thuesen.

Prosecutors have suggested Thuesen was jealous after seeing Rachel Joiner with another former boyfriend. Defense attorneys contend that he was mentally impaired and didn't mean to kill the pair.
