Pedestrian killed while trying to cross Highway 6

HOUSTON It happened just before midnight on Highway 6 near Piping Rock. The 54-year-old man who was struck died at the scene. The driver stayed to talk to police and was released.

According to witnesses, the victim was standing on the eastside shoulder of Highway 6 near a business parking lot entrance. He then walked into the road and was almost struck by a Jeep traveling northbound in the middle lane. The victim made it past the Jeep and then walked in front of a Toyota Camry. The driver of the Camry did not see the victim and hit him.

The driver of the Camry stopped just north of the intersection at Piping Rock, called 911 and began CPR on the victim. HFD emergency personnel arrived and could not revive the victim.

"It appears it was the pedestrian would be at fault. We don't have any reason to charge the driver," said Lt. Larry Satterwhite with the Houston Police Department.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.
