Dry conditions led to grass fire near Katy

HOUSTON Firefighters got to the scene around 11:30pm off Morton Road near Peek. The flames spread quickly because of the wind. A car that was in the field burned. The flames came close to a ranch house and barn and threatened a new subdivision. Firefighters from Katy, Cy-Fair and Houston all helped battle the flames.

"We were challenged by some sustained winds that they were reporting about 18 to 20 miles and hour. With all of the previous rain we had earlier in the year, we obviously had high grass and other conditions in the field," said Mark Holloway with the West I-10 Fire Department.

About 20 acres of land burned during the grass fire.
