Baby abandoned at fire station stays in CPS custody

HOUSTON On April 20, a man dropped off the 9-month-old baby, saying the mother was a friend of his girlfriend's and that they hadn't seen her for more than a week. The mother later told CPS she didn't know what had happened to her baby until she saw it on the news.

CPS did not immediately return the baby to the mother. A hearing was held on Monday. Neither the mother nor any other family members showed up, so the baby will stay in CPS custody. According to CPS spokesperson Estella Olguin, another hearing will be held a few months to determine more permanent custody of the baby.
