Game room raid nets $100,000 in cash

GALVESTON, TX According to the Galveston County Sheriff's Department, sheriff's deputies assisted by Constable Pct. 8, Pam Matranga's Office and Kemah Police Department executed four simultaneous search warrants at game rooms in Bacliff and Kemah area Friday evening as a result of ongoing investigations into reported illegal gambling.

Judge Wayne Mallia issued warrants for four establishments: Lion's Den, Blue Beard's AKA Jolly Rogers, Seven Seas game rooms located on Grand Ave in Bacliff and the 777 Keno game room on State Highway 146 in Kemah.

The sheriff's department says investigators seized approximately $100,000 in cash, several thousand dollars worth of items used to support the businesses, and motherboards from approximately 400 8 liner machines suspected of being used in illegal gambling.

Patrons in the businesses were interviewed and released without charges. Investigators are continuing their investigation to determine if charges may be filed against owners and employees of the businesses.
