Houstonians celebrate San Jacinto Day
HOUSTON
Texas army volunteers fired muskets during a special ceremony held Wednesday morning at the San Jacinto Monument. It was on this day back in 1836 that Sam Houston's army defeated the Mexican army in an 18-minute battle.
The San Jacinto Monument honors everyone who fought for Texas' independence. This Saturday, hundreds of military re-enactors will play out the battle at the San Jacinto battleground historic site.
