HPOU official accused of theft makes court appearance

Houston Police Officers' Union board member Matthew Calley, 44, was indicted for theft over $200,000 and misapplication of fiduciary property over $200,000.

A retired Houston police officer charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the police officers union made an appearance in court. Matthew Calley, 44, appeared in a probable cause hearing on Tuesday morning. Calley is accused of stealing nearly $600,000 from the Houston Police Officers' Union, over a seven-year period. Calley served on the union's Board of Directors at the time.

He is charged with two felonies that could land him in prison for life.
