NYC exhibit tells story of activist Helen Keller

NEW YORK "Helen Keller: A Daring Adventure" is a comprehensive look at a woman who helped bring meaningful change for the disabled. Keller wrote to state Legislatures, Congress and presidents.

She lost her hearing and vision at 19 months and lived until age 87.

The exhibit opens May 7 at the American Foundation for the Blind. Keller worked there for 44 years. She left 80,000 of her personal items to the organization. They include letters, photographs, books and artifacts.

The exhibit will feature 61 items. This is the first time the foundation is letting the public see some of the collection. It also is the start of a fundraising effort to digitize the archival collection.
