HISD Superintendent Terry Grier is pushing for mandatory exams for students who choose to take advanced placement classes, according to a report from the Houston Chronicle. Students who score high enough on the exams can earn college credit. Right now, three quarters of HISD students in AP courses take the test. Grier says it will ensure the classes are tough enough.

Grier also wants the district to pay for the tests, meaning an extra $824,000 a year.
