Katy man makes big donation to AZ park

KATY, TX The check from 76-year-old Taylor H. Sanford Jr. of Katy, Texas, came at the end of a meeting in which Assistant Arizona State Parks Director Jay Ream told people who support the park they need about $25,000 to keep it open during the slow summer months.

His donation went to an account set up for Lost Dutchman by the Arizona State Parks Foundation.

Sanford, who spends his winters at a Mesa retirement community, says he read that the park could close June 3 because of legislative budget cuts.

The retired airline captain made the donation Thursday.
