Marine killed in Afghanistan to be laid to rest

SUGAR LAND, TX A viewing for Lance Corporal Garrett Gamble started at noon in Sugar Land. This Marine's family will continue the process of saying goodbye at the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land, with a viewing which will last until 7pm.

Gamble was 20 years old and serving in southern Afghanistan when he was killed on March 11 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

He was graciously welcomed home earlier this week, with people lining Highway 6 to pay their respects and show their support for his family, which resides in New Territory.

Gamble was a 2008 graduate of Fort Bend ISD's Austin High School and joined the Marines in 2008.

His funeral service is tomorrow morning at 10am at the First United Methodist Church on Eldridge Road. It will be followed by a procession to the Houston National Cemetery where he will be buried with full military honors.

Gamble is survived by his parents and two brothers.
