Two drivers lead police on separate chases

HOUSTON One chase started around midnight when Texas City police say one of their officers spotted a vehicle matching a description of one used in an attempted carjacking of a family just returning from a trip. Eventually, several agencies would become involved.

The driver wouldn't pull over. Authorities put out spike strips at least three times. The vehicle came to a stop at the Gulf Freeway near Fuqua, where three men inside tried to take off on foot, but were all taken into custody. Authorities identified the suspects as Anthony Ryan Lopez, 18, Japhed Jerardo Rodriguez, 17, and Alfredo Gonzalez, 18. Rodriguez and Gonzalez were charged with aggravated robbery. Lopez was charged with resisting arrest.

Around an hour earlier, officers were involved in another chase in which the driver led them from the Gulf Freeway heading north all the way to the North Freeway at Gessner. Police finally got the driver to pull over. She stepped out of the car and they took her into custody. Officers gave her a field sobriety test at the scene.

No one was injured in either incident.
