Drunk driver cries in court

HOUSTON Idania Sagastisado today pleaded guilty to two counts of intoxication manslaughter. Prosecutors say on February 21, 2009, Sagastisado drove drunk the wrong way down Highway 249 and hit a car killing 33-year-old Jony Ventura and his four-year-old daughter Gabriela Ventura. Rhina Ventura cried as she told Sagastisado that her actions destroyed her family.

"She basically just told the court and the defendant how her loss had affected life and her family," said Bonnie Rogers, Ventura's attorney. "Her son has lost his father and sister, and she lost her daughter and husband."

Sagastisado received 12 years for each count of intoxication manslaughter and will serve the terms concurrently.
