Five sent to hospital after SW Houston house fire

HOUSTON Just before daybreak, a fire took over a corner lot house in southwest Houston, The sound and the sight of it, brought neighbors outside.

Neighbor Hank Allers said, "There was a tremendous amount of smoke, and rancid smoke, because there were some vehicles in the driveway that burned."

Allers lives down the street and saw not only the smoke but the emergency crews working to save the people here.

Neighbor Chi Chan recalled, "I saw some young folks just come out to the ambulance."

Three children and two adults were all taken to the hospital, one of them with CPR in progress. To Allers, it seemed like a complex scene.

He said, "The thump that I heard was from the car fires, but then there was an internal fire inside the house. So you're almost looking at two separate things going on."

"At this point we can't tell you where it originated," said Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Alexander with the Houston Fire Department. "The investigation arson crews will do that determination."

That's all the fire department would say for now, not speculating on where or how the fire started.
