Pilot with fake license arrested in Netherlands

AMSTERDAM Dutch media said the man, a 41-year-old Swede, was arrested in the cockpit of a Boeing 737 scheduled to fly from Amsterdam to Ankara, Turkey.

Lawyer Benno Friedberg of Turkish airline Corendon said the company had cooperated with police. The pilot worked for Corendon for two years and is suspected of falsifying documents.

Dutch broadcaster NOS reported Wednesday that the Swede acknowledged the fraud after his arrest Tuesday.

The NOS said the man had an expired private license. He allegedly forged a commercial license and used it to fly for charter airlines in Belgium, Britain and Italy for 13 years.
