School may be out for the holiday but near La Marque High School word of the allegations was already making the rounds.
Resident Bryan Wilson said, "I think that's definitely out of control."
Wilson has two relatives who go to the school. He's shocked to hear a teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
"I was totally alarmed by this scenario even happening in the school, especially a teacher and a student," Wilson said.
District officials confirm they first became aware of the allegations last month after a witness reported the relationship to the principal. Although officials say the allegations did not involve a romantic relationship, it was conduct unbefitting a teacher and student.
Denise McLean with La Marque ISD said, "The allegations are not concerning a sexual nature. It's of a more friendly relationship."
While the formal investigation only began last month, we have learned it's not the first time similar allegations have surfaced. In November the principal of La Marque High School sat down with the teacher about texting students and letting them come to her house. Somehow over the months, the incident was not reported to the district. That is, until January, when officials took action.
"The first option we took was to report it directly to CPS and then to also get law enforcement involved," McLean said.
Officials say the student's parents have been notified. However, a letter was never sent out informing other parents. That's something Wilson doesn't understand.
He said, "We don't know what's going on, but it is something that our community should know about."
The La Marque police department is investigating. No charges have been filed. The teacher was placed on administrative leave, but she resigned shortly after that. Our attempts to reach the teacher today for comment were unsuccessful.
