A teacher in the Alief Independent School District has been arrested for allegedly having sex with one of her students. Lindsay Garcia-Yazdi, 33, is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of an improper relationship with a student. The charges were filed on January 29 and Garcia-Yazdi is free on bond.

The Alief ISD issued a statement saying, "We take any allegation made against a district employee by a student very seriously, and we are certainly doing so with this situation. The safety of our students is a priority. When something like this happens, it affects us all."

The district also stated that Garcia-Yazdi was sent home after she was questioned by police early last week and she has not returned to work since then.

If convicted, Garcia-Yazdi faces up to 20 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.
