TX man convicted in Mass. of credit card theft

BOSTON, MA Federal prosecutors say 52-year-old Dennis Savarese of Austin was convicted in U.S. District Court in Boston on Tuesday of conspiracy, aggravated identity theft and identity fraud.

Prosecutors say Savarese stole the credit cards from health clubs around the nation, then sent them to coconspirators in Massachusetts who made fraudulent identification cards with the names from the stolen cards. Savarese then traveled to casinos and horse tracks around the nation to obtain cash advances using the stolen cards.

Savarese is scheduled to be sentenced on April 27. His lawyer did not immediately return a message Thursday.
