A woman has pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from her employer. Laura Elizabeth Mager, 25, was charged with felony theft and misapplication of property. According to officials, Mager worked as a cashier at Ladd's Zero Market in Needville from 2003 to 2005. Over the course of two years, she stole about $165,000 from the cash register, a little at a time.

Mager reportedly stole small amounts at the beginning. She worked her way up to $600 a day and even more on weekends. Mager disguised her theft by manipulating the cash register daily money count. Ladd's eventually hired a private investigator and alerted police to the crime.

Mager pleaded guilty on January 7. Her punishment hearing is set for March 1. Both convictions are second-degree felonies punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
