A judge in Beaumont has ordered the removal of five pit bulls from a man after another dog left outside was found dead in freezing weather. A hearing was held Wednesday in the case of dog owner Arthur McGlory, who told the judge he did not realize the weather was going to get so cold last week.

Police on Jan. 8 responded to reports of a dog found dead in a trash can outside a home. Officers discovered three other dogs chained outside, with little or no protection from freezing conditions and lack of adequate food and water.

The Humane Society will take custody of McGlory's three adult pit bills, plus two puppies. He also was ordered to pay a $700 fine for care of the dogs.

McGlory could still face animal cruelty charges.
