Gunfire erupts outside First Colony Mall

One person was shot at First Colony Mall in Sugar Land Thursday.

One person was shot when an altercation escalated outside the First Colony Mall in Sugar Land Thursday afternoon, police say. It happened just outside the Dillards entrance at the mall at around 3pm. Sugar Land Police report that some type of altercation took place involving several young males. Someone pulled out a gun and shot another person in the side.

We're told an off-duty Sugar Land police officer who happened to be at the mall heard the gunfire and ran outside. He was able to chase down one of the suspects.

Two others who ran through the mall were caught and arrested. And another two were identified by witnesses and arrested by responding officers in the parking lot.

"We have the suspects and we'll be interviewing at the police department for what happened in this incident and what caused it and we'll be monitoring the status of the person in the hospital," said Captain Stuart Denton with the Sugar Land Police Department.

At this point, we don't know the condition of the shooting victim, who was transported to a local hospital. We also don't know what prompted the shooting.

Police were able to recover a gun. Charges pending against the suspects range from aggravated assault to attempted murder.
