Homeowner fights back against suspected thieves

HOUSTON It happened just before 3:30am outside the home on Ansbury near Ella, where three brothers live. One of the brothers told Eyewitness News that the man and the woman pulled up to the home and at least one of them was breaking into the toolbox in the back of the homeowner's truck.

That's when investigators say the oldest brother came out with the gun and allegedly killed the man. He also shot the woman in the neck, according to police.

Authorities say that at some point during the altercation, the 58-year-old homeowner shot himself in the foot.

Eyewitness News caught up with the homeowner after he was released from the hospital.

"They were breaking in and I caught them this time. They stole my truck twice and broke into my truck," he told us. "This is my neighbor. I'm watching her house, too. We are all watching. There are too many thieves over here."

There are some contradictory reports as to where the woman was when she was shot. One report is she was seated in the getaway car.

The brother told us there have been a number of break-ins along the street.

The woman who was shot is listed in critical condition. The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
