Bond reduced for woman accused of killing neighbor

HOUSTON Tanya Schmidt appeared in a Harris County courtroom, where a judge lowered her bond on a murder charge from $80,000 to $50,000. Schmidt stands accused of shooting and killing her neighbor, Laura Hinson, and wounding Hinson's husband and her own husband Saturday in Pasadena.

Police say Schmidt and her husband started arguing with the Hinsons, then Tanya Schmidt grabbed a shotgun and started shooting.

"She gave a statement to police and she also outlined what her actions were and why and that she acted in self defense," said defense attorney Anthony Osso. "She feared for her own life and her husband's as well. So we'll examine those facts."

Neighbors said the shooting resulted from an ongoing feud between the Schmidts and Hinsons.
