Officials with Sonoco say they alerted local agencies about the planned implosion and that it never posed a threat to the community. In a statement, they say they regret any alarm or inconvenience it may have caused.

That's because the Sunoco Bayport polypropylene manufacturing along Fairmont Parkway was imploded between 7am and 8am. Many nearby residents who heard or felt the blast called the Eyewitness Newsroom to report a possible explosion.
