The heart of downtown Houston's historic district is getting a makeover with a new green space for people and pets. Groundbreaking began on the new Market Square Park yesterday. The city says the redesigned park on Preston near Travis will have pet-friendly facilities, artwork installations and a 9-11 memorial garden.

Market Square was founded in 1836 and was the site of four of Houston's city halls.
