TSU put on academic probation

HOUSTON The delegates at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools voted on the six month probation Tuesday afternoon at their conference in Atlanta. TSU said it believes the probation is just procedure rather than new concerns over the university.

President John M. Rudley said that "while the university remains fully accredited, we disagree with the decision and had hoped that they would continue monitoring without additional sanctions. Nonetheless, we have no option but to work closely with them to provide all the necessary material."

In a statement, TSU also said all of its programs will continue to be fully accredited by SACS during the probation period and will be reviewed at the next meeting in June 2010.

The school is $11 million in debt.
