City of Houston only providing emergency services

The city of Houston is reacting to today's winter weather by implementing its inclement weather policy. What that means is that the only services being provided by the city today are ones that deal with emergencies. Non-essential employees were sent home, starting at 1pm.

"I have authorized department directors to determine which non-essential employees may be cleared to return home or remain at home, beginning at 1pm," said Houston Mayor Bill White. "All city employees should monitor the radio and TV stations and contact their respective departments for further guidance."

Also, the Mayor's Annual Holiday Celebration on the plaza of City Hall scheduled for this evening is cancelled due to inclement weather. Mayor's staff is already in discussion on the possibility of a smaller-scaled celebration with plans to be announced at a later date.
