Massive fire breaks out in Heights area

HOUSTON The fire broke out just after 3am on North Durham near West 14th Street. There were at least three structures involved and firefighters had to pull two alarms before getting the fire under control. Crews started in defensive mode when they arrived because winds where whipping up the flames.

"I can tell you that the fire is under investigation," said HFD Chief Tommy Dowdy. "Arson investigators are here. The original structure appears to be an unoccupied house. There are two other structures involved -- a garage and third structure which I'm not exactly sure what it's usage was. It was back in the back."

Arson investigators on the scene have been interviewing neighbors and gathering as much evidence as possible.

At this time, it's unknown how this fire started or if it's related to the nearly two dozen other fires set over the past several months in the Heights.
