Water and sewer superintendent Floyd Hartman says the break was discovered Monday. No residences were affected.
A statement from the city says wastewater collection department crews completed a repair on the main by midnight Monday, with cleanup on Tuesday.
Amarillo has notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Hartman says samples were taken at Southeast Lake to determine if any raw sewage reached the water via the drainage ditches.
