Ex-band teacher gets probation in sex case

A former assistant band director at Katy High School is now on five years probation after pleading guilty to an improper relationship with a student. Phillip Vassell made the plea in court Monday. Last year, Vassell was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old female student at hotel in Katy. He resigned from the district shortly after the allegations surfaced.
