Large heroin stash found in car at border

EL PASO, TX Agents found the heroin Monday night. The 29.6 pounds of heroin was hidden under the front seats of a car trying to cross into the United States from Ciudad Juarez at a downtown bridge.

Juan Carlos Martinez of Chaparral, N.M., and passenger, Perla A. Ortiz of Anthony, N.M., both 18, were arrested on federal drug charges. Both are being held without bond and online jail records do not show if they have lawyers.

Customs officials say Monday's seizure was significant because of the amount of heroin found. In the last two years agents had only seized about 44 pounds of the drug.
