Two-thousand trees now have new homes in Galveston. They were given away yesterday as part of an event to restore the island after the devastation of Hurricane Ike. City workers estimate Galveston lost 80 percent of its trees in the storm. People lined up in the cold weather for those free trees.

The city's recycling center also gave away free mulch at the event. All of the available trees were picked up by noon.
