HPD hopes safety video will help cut crime

HOUSTON Police unveiled the video yesterday as part of a new convenience store ordinance, which requires stores to update their security systems and properly train their employees on what to do if there's an attack.

The video is available in five languages.

"A large percentage of our small business retail owners are of Asian descent," said Rogene Gee Calvert with the Asian Chamber Of Commerce. "That's why we felt it was important with the Asian languages first."

The city says the ordinance has worked so far. According to our exclusive Crime Tracker, major crimes at convenience stores are down more than five percent in the first six months of this year.
