Victim's eye for detail helps nab crooks

TOMBALL, TX According to Tomball police, on Monday just before midnight, a man pulled into the Kroger's shopping center to fill his truck up with gas. While getting gas, he walked around his vehicle to dispose of some trash and noticed a white passenger car ease up next to him.

One of the occupants of the vehicle, identified as a Hispanic male in his 20's, exited the vehicle and approached the victim, exposing what appeared to be an automatic pistol towards the victim. At this time, a second subject matching the same description exited the vehicle and removed the victim's wallet and cellular phone from his pockets. The suspects then fled the scene without further incident.

The victim was able to give Tomball police officers a detailed description of both suspects involved in the robbery, along with a description of the vehicle the suspects fled in. Tomball PD sent the information through a statewide network to various law enforcement agencies throughout the region.

With help from the Harris County Sheriff Department, they were able to locate the suspect vehicle traveling in the area of Beltway 8 at Mesa Road. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and were able to take both suspects, later identified as Jesus Alaniz, 17, of Houston, and a juvenile accomplice into custody without incident.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects were reportedly responsible for three additional robberies that occurred during the early morning hours throughout the Houston area. Both subjects were charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.
