Heater being blamed for house fire

HOUSTON Flames broke out at the home on Ashton Park and Richmond around 11:30pm. The family was waiting outside of the home when firefighters got there. Heavy smoke damaged the roof, attic and upstairs floor of the home.

The homeowner says the fire started shortly after the heater was turned on. As it gets colder, firefighters say Houstonians should check out their heaters and fireplaces now so this doesn't happen to them.
