Mother, son accused of cattle theft

GROVETON, TX Trinity County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Billy Patton says 43-year-old Michael Terry of Trinity was jailed Tuesday on $500,000 bail.

Terry was arrested Friday, one day after the sale of 10 cattle at the Nacogdoches Livestock Exchange. The cattle were listed in the name of 69-year-old Mary Horn, who was released Monday on a personal recognizance bond.

Patton says investigators believe the cattle were stolen Thursday from near Groveton. The owner knew a sale was happening in Nacogdoches, went to the site and identified his livestock.

Patton, who had no record of attorneys for Terry and Horn, said cattle theft happens, "but usually not a mother, son working together on this."
