Task force asks residents for arson tips

HOUSTON Sheila Jackson Lee joined forces with local council members and the Houston Fire Department to announce the creation of a new fire crime task force in the neighborhood. The group will work closely with the fire department to generate leads to find the suspected serial arsonist.

HFD Chief Arson Investigator Gabino Cortez said, "If a citizen sees something unusual, someone that doesn't belong in the neighborhood, that is the time for them to pick up the phone, give us call, give Crime Stoppers a call and give us that information and we'll follow up on it."

The task force will also be passing out leaflets to residents this weekend to help generate more tips. If you have any information you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS or the fire department directly at 713-865-9000.
