Judge grants bond in Pearland stabbing

PEARLAND, TX Yu is being held on a $400,000 bond at a detention center in Angleton. While this case is being handled in Brazoria County, family violence experts in Harris County who've handled these types of cases before are giving us some insight into Yu and his alleged behavior.

In the 24 hours since his arrest for the alleged murder of his wife, police say Yu's demeanor hasn't changed. Detectives say the 43-year-old husband and father who's accused of stabbing his 39-year-old wife Lisa upwards of 15 times has been calm and cooperative.

Lt. Onesimo Lopez with the Pearland Police Department said, "The judge spoke with him. He seemed aware of his surroundings."

While Pearland police talked to Yu at length Monday night, investigators say there is still no clear motive for the killing. Monday afternoon, Yu called 911 saying he thought he killed his wife. When police responded, they found Yu's wife on the kitchen floor. Yu was covered in blood but calm.

"Those are really scary because that person is on a path and has made a decision," explained Jane Waters with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

Her office isn't handling this case but as chief of the DA's family law division, Waters is an expert in these types of cases. She sees Yu's alleged actions as methodical and calculated. While there were no reports of domestic violence, Waters warns it doesn't mean there weren't problems in the relationship.

She said, "You really have to start talking to friends, co-workers, family members to find out if there were signs that maybe should have been seen or people knew, but didn't know what to do."

The couple's 12-year-old son, who was at school during the attack, is staying with relatives. A chaplain broke the news to him last night.
