Eighteen dead in Iraqi violence

BAGHDAD, Iraq A tanker truck packed with explosives ripped through an Iraqi police outpost in the former insurgent stronghold of Ramadi, killing at least seven people. At least 16 people were injured when the suicide attacker struck at midday.

In a predominantly Sunni neighborhood in Baghdad, at least three Iraqi soldiers were killed in a double roadside bombing. Fifteen others, including 11 civilians, were wounded.

Police say a bomb attached to a bus exploded in mostly Shiite southern Iraq, killing at least six. And a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol in Mosul killed two officers and wounded two others.

The violence comes as a group linked to the 2007 abduction of five British citizens says the U.S. military has freed 35 of its members. In total, about 250 have been freed as talks about the fate of the only hostage believed to be still alive, computer expert Peter Moore, have intensified.
