Police chase ends in crash, shooting

SOUTH HOUSTON, TX It happened on Spencer Highway at Allen Genoa last night. Police tried to pull over a car, but the driver led them on a chase and was eventually shot by an officer.

The officer shot the suspect in the left shoulder. That suspect is in listed in good condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Police say the suspect is an 18-year-old man who was driving a black Mitsubishi, which is believed to be stolen. When an officer tried to pull the driver over, the suspect led the officer on a chase through the City of South Houston. The chase ended on Allen Genoa.

Police say the suspect intentionally rammed another police unit head-on. Police say after he rammed into the police car, the suspect backed up and allegedly tried to run over the officer who was about 20 feet away. That's when the officer fired at least two shots, one hitting the hood of the suspect's car. The second struck the suspect in the left shoulder through the windshield.

"The officer was in the front of the vehicle when the suspect was trying to flee and at that point, a couple of shots were fired," said Chief Herbert Gilbert with the City of South Houston Police Department.

The district attorney's office is investigating the incident. Police have not yet released the suspect's name or the officer's name who fired the shots.
