Officer injured in Galleria-area shooting

HOUSTON TABC Agent Michael Sehon had been working off duty, hired as an armed escort to guard a jewelry salesman. He stopped at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sage at West Alabama so the jeweler could run an errand.

"The salesman went inside," said Jodi Silva with the Houston Police Department. "As he was sitting in the driver's seat, he was approached by two masked suspects who broke out the windows and placed a gun at the TABC officer's head."

A second suspect busted out the back window in an attempt to steal what was in the seat, only there was nothing of value. Officer Sehon and one of the suspects exchanged gunfire.

"The TABC officer was able to get out of his vehicle and run for cover," said Silva.

A bullet hit Sehon in the leg. The suspect took two in his back. A pistol belonging to one of the masked men was left behind, along with a shell casing as the pair fled the scene in a car. Sehon was rushed to Memorial Herman Hospital.

"He seemed OK, you know, considering the situation he went through," said Captain Rick Cruz with the TABC.

Captain Cruz says he's thankful. Looking back, he recognizes the situation could have ended differently.

"Without knowing, without speaking to him at the time, obviously there's a hundred things going through my mind and everybody else's," said Captain Cruz. "Fortunately, this time everything turned out for the best."

One of the suspects was dropped off at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital with gunshot wounds to the back. One or possibly two more suspects are still at large.

Officer Sehon was released from the hospital Friday evening.
