One Houston law firm that specializes in hurricane victims says it has about 100 Ike cases alone. Lawyer Bill Kendall says most of his clients are fighting insurance companies over whether wind or water caused the damage, and the dollar amount of the damage.
"A lot of times, they get worn down and they'll take any offer that's out there just to get on with their lives," he said.
Kendall advises that everyone should know their policy and make sure they have enough coverage. The Texas Department of Insurance is investigating some insurance agents who did not secure wind or flood insurance even though their clients had requested it. They are also looking into the actions of some public insurance adjusters.
