Elderly woman robbed in parking lot

SUGAR LAND, TX Sheriff's investigators are asking for your help catching the man who attacked that grandmother. Dorothy Butler has deep bruises on her face, her arms and her side.

"It hurts when you touch, you know," she said. "Of course my whole side was sore the next day."

The 81-year-old was leaving an H-E-B near Highway 59 and 99 with her husband last Friday morning when a man driving a red truck stopped to ask her for directions.

Butler recalled, "So I turned to point, and when I do, he grabs my purse on my shoulder. He grabs the strap here and he takes off."

Butler fell and hit the side of the truck as the driver sped away.

"He just has no conscience at all, no conscience," she said.

Shortly after stealing her purse, investigators say the suspect used Butler's credit card at a nearby gas station. This is surveillance video of that purchase. Adding insult to injury, Butler says he spent more than $200 before she could cancel her cards. Investigators describe the suspect as a clean shaven Hispanic man in his mid thirties, wearing a blue polo shirt.

Chief Craig Brady with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said, "Anytime somebody picks on someone that's 80 years plus in age, that's a cowardly individual. It's very fortunate the lady wasn't severely injured."

Butler says she'll be fine. Though she admits if the suspect is caught she has a thing or two to show him.

"I'd hit him in the face so he'd look like me," she joked.

If you know the man, you're asked to call the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office at 281-341-4665 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS.
