Dawson, who was unconscious after the fall, was taken by medical helicopter to Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities say both Dawson and Benson had been drinking. Benson, who is the brother-in-law of State Representative Brandon Creighton, reportedly refused a breath sample by police, but a blood sample was drawn.
Benson was charged with Intoxicated Assault with Vehicle and bond was set at $25,000.
