Search underway for escaped inmate

BURNET, TX Burnet County Sheriff W.T. Smith has said his investigators believe Nuana Fuentes-Sanchez escaped from the county jail during recreation time on Sunday. Smith told reporters and state officials on Monday that he believes someone distracted a jailer while Fuentes-Sanchez climbed to the jail roof and slid down a drain pipe.

Smith also says border officials have been alerted to be on the lookout for the Salvadoran national.

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards will investigate, according to Executive Director Adan Munoz Tuesday.

Fuentes-Sanchez had been held on an aggravated robbery charge on $200,000 bond. He and four other Salvadoran men were held on charges relating to a predawn break-in April 14 at a Burnet County house.
