Boy's death leads to arrests

HOUSTON Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Edgefield Lane Monday evening. When they arrived, paramedics were performing CPR on the three-year-old boy. The child was later pronounced dead at St. Lukes Hospital in The Woodlands.

An autopsy confirmed investigators' suspicions that the child died of blunt force trauma to the body. Three people have now been arrested. Crystal Tijerna, 26, is the victim's aunt and primary caretaker. Noah Herrera, 30, is Tijerna's live-in boyfriend. Steven Paul Chauvin, 47, is another resident in the household. Tijerna, Herrera and Chauvin are all charged with injury to a child. Authorities say the criminal charges could be upgraded as the investigation proceeds.

There were several other children living in the home. Five children between the ages of two and 12 are now in the custody of Child Protective Services.
