A lot of homes that survived Hurricane Ike didn't make it through last night's twister. One home was ripped from its foundation while other houses had roof damage or lost their roofs entirely. That includes Dolphin World, a souvenir shop along the seawall, where windows were shattered.

The damage covers about a four to five block area. The National Weather Service believes this water spout came ashore somewhere between 29th and 33rd Streets just before 10pm, causing it to turn into a tornado. The Galveston County Daily News is reporting three people were injured. P> Windows were blown out of a patrol car while two police officers were sitting inside. Authorities also say a man was hit by roof debris while pushing his bicycle down the seawall.

People we've heard from on Galveston Island say they simply did not see this coming.

"Everybody was scared because it made really big noises," said one Galveston resident with whom we spoke.

"I've seen all this destruction and stuff. I just can't believe it, you know. It's crazy," said resident Isaac Castaneda.

CenterPoint Energy says about 5,600 customers lost power on Galveston Island. Crews worked throughout the night and had everybody back online by 5am.
