SWAT standoff ends with suspect shot

HOUSTON La Porte police responded to the call on Willmont near Rocky Hollow around 5am Saturday morning. They realized they needed help and called in Pasadena SWAT officers and negotiators for backup. A short time later, a child was released unharmed.

"There was a negotiated release of a 12-year-old boy who had been in the house. The woman had gotten out previously and was providing us some information about what was occurring inside," said Asst. Chief Steve Deardorff of the La Porte Police Department.

Officers entered the home when they heard a gunshot. They say the 42-year-old man shot himself in the chest. He was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
