Two dead in apparent-murder suicide

HOUSTON Investigators believe a husband, 38, shot and killed his 36-year-old wife and then himself, while their two-year-old daughter was in their home on Newbrook and Leawood.

The husband's father discovered their bodies last night after not hearing from his son in a day. Once he got in through a window, the father found his son and his daughter-in-law dead. He found his two-year-old granddaughter unhurt in a back bedroom.

Investigators say the toddler spent most of the day yesterday in the home with her parents' bodies nearby.

"The daughter is with family members and being checked out by children's services right now," said Detective J.T. Barringer with the Houston Police Department.

The little girl was transported to Texas Children's Hospital for observation.

Authorities believe the motive for the shooting was a domestic dispute.

The identities of both victims are pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
